We arrange asbestos testing in Townsville to establish whether a material contains asbestos before it is disturbed. A collected sample is analysed by a NATA-accredited laboratory using polarised light microscopy, with a report to inform the next decision.
The Townsville local government area contains roughly 38,600 residential buildings likely to contain asbestos-containing material, out of about 74,500 residential buildings in total. That makes testing a practical first step before renovation where sheet materials, linings, roof products or other suspect items will be touched. Pre-1980: built before the post-Cyclone-Althea wind loading code changes, so these homes are both cyclone-vulnerable and highly likely to contain asbestos cement products. 2003: total national ban on asbestos.
Lab analysis starts from $40 per sample inc GST. Inspection and written report starts from $250 inc GST. Laboratory analysis and inspection are separate paid services; removal on-site quotes are free.
Prices are a guide only and depend on size, access and condition. Your free on-site quote gives you a fixed price before any work starts.
From inspection to laboratory report
Inspect the proposed work. We begin with the location and material you are concerned about, particularly where renovation, repairs or demolition would disturb it.
Collect the sample. Sample collection is planned to limit unnecessary disturbance. A result provides evidence rather than relying on age, colour, texture or an online comparison.
Laboratory analysis. The NATA-accredited laboratory uses polarised light microscopy. The process can identify asbestos types including chrysotile, amosite and crocidolite where present.
Use the result. We can discuss whether removal, a broader assessment or another planned step is suitable for the material and project.
When testing helps
Testing supports a controlled decision before walls are opened, old flooring is lifted, eaves are replaced or a roof or shed is removed. It is particularly useful when a material is in good condition and work has not yet begun: there is time to establish the facts and organise the correct scope.
If there are multiple locations or a renovation affects much of a building, a whole-property asbestos assessment may be more useful than treating each item in isolation. If you are only beginning to investigate, our guide to identifying asbestos explains why visual signs are not confirmation.
After removal, an asbestos clearance certificate is a different service from initial testing. It addresses the post-removal inspection pathway rather than identifying an undisturbed sample.
Clear cost expectations
Lab analysis starts from $40 per sample inc GST. Inspection and written report starts from $250 inc GST. Laboratory analysis and inspection are separate paid services; removal on-site quotes are free.

There is no “free testing” offer. Keeping testing and removal quoting distinct means you can decide on evidence before committing to the next stage.
Testing is evidence, not a removal quote
Testing answers a specific material question. It does not by itself determine the removal method, disposal arrangements or whether a broader property assessment is needed. Once the laboratory report is available, it can be used to plan those next steps with a clearer understanding of the material involved.
A result is useful before a project changes an older product that may have remained stable and undisturbed. That includes planned work to roof sheeting, cladding, internal linings, eaves, flooring and under-house areas. Early inspection allows decisions to be made before work creates unnecessary disturbance.
For material already affected by a wider renovation or damage event, tell us what has occurred so the appropriate service can be considered. We can discuss initial testing, a whole-property assessment or the clearance pathway after removal. In every case, paid testing and free on-site removal quotes are described separately.
