Friable asbestos removal in Townsville always requires a Class A licence. Friable material can be crumbled or reduced to powder by hand pressure, so the work needs a controlled removal plan rather than ordinary bonded-sheet handling.
A Class A licence is required for friable asbestos in any amount, and also permits non-friable removal work. Since 1 May 2021, Queensland classifies low density asbestos fibre board (LDB) as friable asbestos, meaning it requires a Class A licensed removalist regardless of quantity. LDB was used as internal wall and ceiling lining in some Queensland homes and is often mistaken for ordinary fibro sheet.
We first need to understand the material, its condition and where it sits in the property. That determines the containment approach, safe access and the checks required before the area can be used again. Do not cut, sand, drill or otherwise disturb suspect friable material while that scope is being established.
If material is uncertain, our asbestos testing service can help establish the next step. Friable work is priced for its actual scope and quoted on site; visit the removal cost guide for general guidance.
Controlled removal conditions
Friable work is managed through containment and verification appropriate to the material and location.
A clearance certificate provides the documented check after removal where required.
